Things to do while social distancing
Posted by Lois Ho on
While we're all stuck indoors, self isolating or socially distancing, it can become a difficult time for many who are used to being out and about. There are plenty of lists of what to do while you're at home and here is my pen related two cents
Chores
Clean your fountain pens
If you’ve inked up heaps of pens and haven’t had time to wash them, now is a good time to get through this time consuming task. Although if you start some of the other things on this list, you might find yourself doing it more often
Swab your ink collection
Have you ever swabbed your ink collection? It’s a great way to keep track of the inks that you own and avoiding dupes (unless you don’t want to).
Writing
Start/pick up journaling
It’s a great time to use up all of your stickers, stamps, washi tape, notebooks, ink, pens.
Incowrimo
Reply to all of the letters you received during Incowrimo (assuming you can still go out and post them). Most of your correspondents are probably stuck in the same situation and could use some cheering up
Nanowrimo
If you’re like me and participated in Nanowrimo and then let it slide ever since, now is a good time to pick it up again.
Improve your handwriting/calligraphy
It’s a great time to practise your handwriting or calligraphy. If you have stacks of paper at home like me, you could even download and print guide sheets at home and practise while streaming your favourite show.
Learning
MOOC’s
There are heaps of free MOOC’s (Massive open online course) online with many self paced and without tests. There are courses in areas ranging from art and creative writing to learning python and data science. Check some out here at Coursera and edX (no affliation).
Museums
Many museums and art galleries now have virtual tours and exhibitions for you to visit virtually. Many have their own online tours, or find a new one online at Google Art and Culture (no affliation).
Library
Check out and borrow books from your local library virtually through Overdrive or Libby. Some Libraries will allow you to sign up online (if you don’t already have a card) or use your existing membership to log in and borrow books.
Hopefully that this list has given you some ideas on how to stay entertain while in self isolation or socially distancing.
